COYOTES 3, OILERS 2 (SO): Ray Whitney scored in regulation and added the decisive tally in a shootout as visiting Phoenix completed the first season series sweep of Edmonton in team history.

Raffi Torres scored the tying goal with 2:23 left in regulation and Mikkel Boedker also tallied in the shootout as the Coyotes leapfrogged Los Angeles and San Jose to move back into eighth place in the Western Conference.

Mike Smith turned aside 36 shots and made two more saves in the shootout as Phoenix rallied from a 2-0 deficit and gave coach Dave Tippett his 400th career victory.

Jordan Eberle and Ales Hemsky scored 33 seconds apart in the second period to give Edmonton a 2-0 lead.

Devan Dubnyk fell to 1-5-1 lifetime against the Coyotes despite making 40 saves and denying Keith Yandle on a penalty shot in overtime.

The Oilers went ahead on Eberle's 32nd goal of the season at 6:53 of the period and doubled their lead 33 seconds later when Hemsky stuffed a rebound of his own shot past Smith to end a 12-game goalless streak.

Phoenix pulled within 2-1 with 12:02 left in the third when Whitney scored his third goal in four games against the Oilers this season.

The Coyotes pulled even when Torres beat Dubnyk with a one-timer with 2:23 left in regulation.

: Edmonton's Taylor Hall, who suffered a concussion in Friday's game against Calgary, said he felt fine. The top pick in the 2010 draft hit his head on the ice after taking a hit from Flames defenseman Cory Sarich. He is unsure of when he will return to the lineup. ... Coyotes leading scorer Radim Vrbata and Martin Hanzal returned to the lineup after missing two and four games, respectively.
