Islanders 3, Panthers 2 (SO)

ISLANDERS 3, PANTHERS 2 (SO):
Frans Nielsen scored in the first round of the shootout and Evgeni Nabokov denied all three attempts as New York handed Florida its third straight loss.

Matt Moulson netted his team-leading 34th goal and Kyle Okposo also tallied for the Islanders, who won for just the third time in nine outings.

Tomas Fleischmann collected his career-high 24th goal and Stephen Weiss also scored for the Southeast Division-leading Panthers, who are three points ahead of Washington. The Capitals skated to a 3-0 victory over Minnesota on Sunday.

After Nabokov denied John Madden in the first round of the shootout, Nielsen gave New York the advantage after backhanding the puck past Jose Theodore. Nabokov, who finished with 33 saves, stopped Wojtek Wolski before Marcel Goc missed the net to end the game.

With the game tied at 1-1, Fleischmann took advantage of a fortunate carom off the glass and beat Nabokov midway through the third period. Fleischmann, who assisted on Weiss' tally in the first period, has four goals and five assists in his past nine games.

Okposo leveled the contest 2 1/2 minutes later after his attempted feed to captain Mark Streit deflected off Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov's stick and past Theodore.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Theodore, who finished with 35 saves, fell to 18-9-2 with one tie in his career versus the Islanders. ... Weiss has collected three goals and four assists during his season-high six-game point streak. ... Florida's Tomas Kopecky had a pair of assists. ... Islanders left wing Matt Martin suffered a lower body injury after he was hit by a shot from Mike Weaver in the first period. Martin returned in the second period.
