Sabres 2, Lightning 1

Defenseman Tyler Myers scored the go-ahead goal 52 seconds into the third period and Ryan Miller made 30 saves as visiting Buffalo ended a four-game losing streak.

Myers scored his third goal of the season on a shot from the right point and the Sabres killed off all six Lightning power plays. Cody Hodgson added a goal and an assist and Thomas Vanek contributed a pair of helpers for Buffalo, which gave interim coach Ron Rolston his first victory.

Steven Stamkos scored for Tampa Bay to extend his goal-scoring streak to six games. Mathieu Garon made 19 saves for the Lightning.

Stamkos was first to the rebound of Teddy Purcell’s shot, flipping home his NHL-leading 14th of the season 1:24 into the contest. Hodgson answered by shoveling the puck from behind the net off Tampa Bay defenseman Sami Salo’s skate and into the left corner of the cage at 10:02 to tie it for Buffalo.

The Lightning had six minutes of power-play time - including 46 seconds with a two-man advantage - but came up empty in the middle period and failed on one more chance in the third. Miller, who made 26 of his saves in the final 40 minutes, made a big stop on Stamkos from in close early in the final session.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Salo left the game with a lower-body injury in the second period and did not return. … Miller improved to 19-7-0 all-time versus the Lightning and his teammates blocked 14 shots. … Tampa Bay went with 11 forwards and seven defensemen, scratching RW Adam Hall.
