Oilers 3, Stars 2 (OT): David Perron scored the decisive goal in the second round of the shootout as visiting Edmonton secured just its third win in 14 meetings with Dallas.
Jordan Eberle tucked the puck past the extended left pad of Kari Lehtonen (30 saves) in the first round, but Rich Peverley answered with a wrist shot under the crossbar in the second. Perron gave the Oilers the advantage by snapping a shot over Lehtonen's glove before Alex Chiasson lost control of the puck on Dallas' third attempt, ending the contest.
Ales Hemsky and captain Andrew Ference scored and Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves before exiting late in the second period after a collision with Ryan Garbutt. Devan Dubnyk turned aside 15 shots in relief for the Oilers, who have won five of seven while handing the Stars their fourth loss in five games (1-2-2).
Garbutt tallied twice for the Stars, who played without leading goal-scorer Tyler Seguin due to concussion-like symptoms.
Dallas seized a 2-1 lead at 3:45 of the third period as Antoine Roussel breezed past Ference on the wing before feeding Garbutt for a one-timer from the slot. The tally was Garbutt's fifth of the season and third in as many games. Ference forged a tie with 5:07 remaining as his point shot beat Lehtonen for his second goal of the campaign.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Bryzgalov was left holding his head after Garbutt crashed into him near the post during the second period. The Russian was able to skate off under his own power. ... With Dallas D Jordie Benn serving a slashing penalty, Garbutt stole the puck from Edmonton D Denis Grebeshkov at the blue line before skating in and backhanding the puck over the left pad of Bryzgalov at 11:37 of the second period. The Oilers answered with five seconds remaining in the session as C Sam Gagner whipped the puck from along the right-wing boards to Hemsky, who tapped it home. ... Dallas D Jamie Oleksiak logged 18:38 of ice time after being recalled from Texas of the American Hockey League on Saturday. Oleksiak was playing in place of veteran D Stephane Robidas, who is sidelined for four to six months with a broken right leg.
