Rob Klinkhammer scored two goals and set up another and Mikkel Boedker also tallied twice as Phoenix sent visiting New York to its 11th loss in 12 games (1-9-2).
Mike Ribeiro added a goal and two assists while defenseman Keith Yandle had a tally and an assist to help Phoenix halt a three-game winless drought at home (0-2-1). Mike Smith turned aside 21 shots as the Coyotes improved to 8-1-1 against Eastern Conference opponents.
Eric Boulton, captain John Tavares and Kyle Okposo scored for the Islanders, who went 1-4-0 on their five-game road trip. Kevin Poulin made 31 saves in falling to 1-7-0 in his last eight starts.
Despite Phoenix's 17-6 advantage in shots, the teams were tied after one period as Boulton and Yandle traded goals 88 seconds apart, but the Coyotes erupted for three tallies - by Klinkhammer, Boedker and Ribeiro - in a span of 3:41 to race to a 4-1 lead just over six minutes into the middle session.
Tavares and Okposo connected 1:23 apart to draw New York within a goal, but Boedker forced a turnover and finished off a rush with Ribeiro by whistling a shot over Poulin's shoulder with 61 seconds left in the period. Klinkhammer supplied the capper with an unassisted tally with 5:47 to play for his first career two-goal performance.

Islanders D Brian Strait was activated from injured reserve Thursday and collected an assist in his first game since Oct. 22. ...
