Antti Raanta rebounded from his first NHL loss by flirting with his first shutout as host Chicago posted its fourth win in five games.
Marian Hossa scored a short-handed goal, Patrick Sharp converted a power-play chance and Kris Versteeg tallied at even strength as the Blackhawks ended Los Angeles' streak of 18 consecutive first periods without a goal against. Captain Jonathan Toews notched a pair of assists and Patrick Kane recorded one to extend his point streak to nine contests.
Defenseman Alec Martinez scored and Ben Scrivens turned aside 37 shots for the Kings, who had their six-game winning streak snapped. Los Angeles, which lost for the first time this month (6-1-0), allowed more than two goals for the first time in 19 contests.
Hossa opened the scoring 5:45 into the game, beating Scrivens from the doorstep after receiving a pass from Toews, who outworked Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin for the puck behind the net. Versteeg scored from the right faceoff circle during a 2-on-1 rush midway through the first and Sharp converted a cross-slot feed from Toews with 29 seconds remaining in the session to make it 3-0.
Raanta, who was pulled after allowing five goals in Saturday's 7-3 loss at Toronto, finished with 21 saves. The 24-year-old Finn was 3:54 away from posting his first career shutout when Martinez beat him with a shot from above the left circle.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kane's assist also extended his home point streak to 10 games. He has notched at least one point in 21 of his last 22 overall contests and is one behind Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby (46) for the league lead. ... Los Angeles finished 3-1-0 on its four-game road trip. ... Chicago improved to 4-3-1 this month, scoring a total of 22 goals in the victories.
