Coyotes 1, Canucks 0
Antoine Vermette scored his 13th goal and Mike Smith made 29 saves as host Phoenix snapped its four-game losing streak.
Defensemen Keith Yandle and Oliver Ekman-Larsson each recorded an assist for the Coyotes, who improved to 2-6-0 this month.
Rookie Eddie Lack turned aside 22 shots for Vancouver, which completed an 0-3-0 road trip that featured a pair of 1-0 losses. The Canucks were outscored 11-1 on the trek and have scored more than three goals only twice in eight games in January (1-5-2).
Smith stopped 11 shots in the first period and nine in each of the final two sessions for his 25th career shutout and first this season. The Canadian Olympian snapped a personal seven-game winless stretch (0-5-2) by helping kill off a high-sticking double-minor on Martin Hanzal at the end of the third period.
Vermette gave Smith all the offensive support he needed during a power play at 12:51 of the opening session. Yandle made a slap pass from above the slot to Vermette, whose cross-slot pass attempt from the right side went off Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis and between the pads of Lack.
