Canucks 2, Oilers 1

Roberto Luongo made 28 saves and Kellan Lain scored his first NHL goal in his second game as visiting Vancouver prevailed without suspended coach John Tortorella and leading scorer Henrik Sedin.

Zack Kassian also tallied for the Canucks, who didn't have Sedin in the lineup for the first time in 679 games because of rib and finger injuries. Daniel Sedin recorded an assist for his first point in five contests as Vancouver held on to win its second straight game.

Jordan Eberle scored and Ben Scrivens recorded 25 saves while falling to 0-2-0 since being acquired from Los Angeles by Edmonton, which lost its fifth straight game (0-4-1). The Oilers outshot the Canucks 12-5 in the third period but could not get the equalizer past Luongo, who improved to 26-11-4 against Edmonton.

Lain knocked in the rebound of Dale Weise's shot to open the scoring at 5:14 of the first period. Kassian came off the bench during a partial line change and skated unmolested into the high slot, where he took a pass from Ryan Kesler and wired a shot off the right post and past Scrivens at 7:59 of the second session to make it 2-0.

Moments earlier, Luongo made point-blank stops on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall during a power play, which ended 24 seconds prior to Kassian's goal. Eberle's tally, which came with five minutes remaining, followed a wild scramble that saw Luongo make the original save on Sam Gagner and wind up out of the crease.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Tortorella on Monday was suspended 15 days - six games - by the NHL for trying to gain access to Calgary's locker room after the first period Saturday, when he was incensed that Flames coach Bob Hartley started his fourth line and initiated a line brawl to start the contest. ... Lain, who scored on his first career shot, was involved in the donnybrook against Calgary and ejected two seconds into his debut. ... Henrik Sedin, whose streak was the sixth-longest in NHL history, last missed a game on March 14, 2004. Twin brother Daniel, who has played alongside Vancouver's captain for virtually his entire career, started on a line with Alex Burrows centered by Kesler.
