Senators 3, Lightning 2 (SO)

Mika Zibanejad scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout and Robin Lehner made 38 saves as visiting Ottawa edged Tampa Bay.

Kyle Turris scored in the first round of the bonus format and Zibanejad beat Ben Bishop on Ottawa's third opportunity before Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos lost control of the puck on his attempt, ending the contest. Captain Erik Karlsson and Mark Stone netted goals less than two minutes apart in the third period for the Senators, who lost their season opener at Nashville on Thursday.

Defenseman Victor Hedman and Brett Connolly tallied for the Lightning, who began the campaign by beating Florida in overtime on Thursday. Nikita Kucherov scored in the first round of the shootout for Tampa Bay, which received a 32-save performance from Bishop.

Bishop stopped all 13 shots he faced in the first period and Hedman scored a power-play tally on a rising shot through a screen from the right point at 15:42. Karlsson jumped into the play and whipped home a pass from Alex Chiasson on a give-and-go 7:34 into the third to forge a tie.

Stone made it 2-1 when he moved down the slot unmarked and took a nifty pass from Turris, who was behind the end line, before beating Bishop only 96 seconds later. Brian Boyle worked the puck into the zone and flipped a pass into the right faceoff circle to Connolly, who beat Lehner to the glove side with 7:26 left in the third.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Senators RW Bobby Ryan, who was held without a shot in the season opener, notched an assist on Karlsson’s goal. … The Lightning scratched Ds Eric Brewer and Mark Barberio for the second straight game. LW Jonathan Drouin (thumb) could make his NHL debut next week. … Ottawa D Chris Phillips saw a team-high 27:18 of ice time.
