Captain Steven Stamkos scored twice in regulation and Ryan Callahan recorded the only goal in the shootout as visiting Tampa Bay posted its sixth straight victory.

Tyler Johnson also tallied and Callahan added two assists before making a deke on Jimmy Howard and sliding the puck into the right side of the net in the first round of the shootout. Ben Bishop turned aside 17 shots and stopped all three shooters in the bonus format to improve to 5-1-0 lifetime against the Red Wings.

Johan Franzen and Gustav Nyquist each recorded a goal and an assist while Darren Helm also scored for Detroit, which saw its four-game home winning streak come to an end. Defenseman Niklas Kronwall notched two assists and was robbed of the winner by Bishop in overtime while Howard made 27 saves.

Franzen scored from the top of the right faceoff circle four seconds into a power play at 6:14 of the first period, but Stamkos tied it during a 5-on-3 advantage with a rocket from the high slot at 12:53. Stamkos put the Lightning ahead 2:19 into the second session with a wrist shot from the slot that originally was waved off before being confirmed by video review.

Johnson extended the lead with a blast from the right faceoff dot at 6:02 before Helm beat Bishop from the left circle during a power play with 8:23 left in the second. Nyquist stickhandled his way to the left circle before his wrist shot through a screen zipped past Bishop’s glove with 11:11 remaining in regulation to tie the game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Johnson has registered at least point in 11 of his last 12 games, totaling 17 in that span. … Detroit C Pavel Datsyuk (groin) sat out his second straight game while D Kyle Quincey (ankle) returned to the lineup after missing four contests. … The Red Wings were 23-for-23 on the penalty kill at home this season before Stamkos’ tally in the first period.
