Flyers 4, Devils 1
Sean Couturier and Matt Read each scored and set up a first-period goal as Philadelphia rolled in the opener of its four-game homestand.
Wayne Simmonds added a power-play tally and Jakub Voracek scored into an empty net as the Flyers won for only the third time in 14 games (3-8-3). Captain Claude Giroux and defenseman Mark Streit each collected a pair of assists and Ray Emery made 17 saves for his first win since Oct. 28.
Martin Havlat's power-play tally accounted for the only scoring for New Jersey, which had its four-game winning streak in Philadelphia snapped. Cory Schneider turned aside 32 shots as the Devils suffered their 14th loss in 19 contests (5-11-3).
Read set up the opening goal 6:12 into the game, blocking a shot before racing down the right wing and sliding a crossing pass to Couturier in front for the short-handed finish. Couturier returned the favor less than 7 1/2 minutes later, collecting the puck along the left-wing boards before throwing a no-look pass into the crease for a conversion by Read.
New Jersey cut the deficit in half during a power play at 13:02 of the second period as Scott Gomez's blast from the right point was deflected past Emery by Havlat. Schneider stopped a point-blank shot by Simmonds and denied Brayden Schenn twice in the third to keep it a one-goal game, but Simmonds added an insurance tally by knocking home a rebound with 4:16 to play.
