Islanders 2, Blues 1 (SO)

NEW YORK -- Center Frans Nielsen and right winger Kyle Okposo scored in the shootout on Friday night as the New York Islanders edged the St. Louis Blues 2-1 at the Barclays Center.

Nielsen and Okposo scored on the Islanders' only shots in the shootout as New York (15-8-4) completed a perfect three-game homestand by winning its fourth straight game.

Goalie Thomas Greiss turned back Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and right winger Vladimir Tarasenko as the Islanders completed their first season sweep of the Blues since 1984-85. Greiss finished with 31 saves.

Center Mikhail Grabovski scored in the second period for the Islanders.

Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored for the Blues (15-7-4), who have lost two in a row (0-1-1) and seven of 11 (4-4-3).

Blues goalie Brian Elliott had 24 saves.

The Blues took the lead on Shattenkirk's goal with 26.8 seconds left in the first period. Center Paul Stastny won a faceoff deep in the Islanders' zone before the puck ended up with right winger Vladimir Tarasenko, who passed it to Shattenkirk. His shot from the left faceoff circle banged off the left post and past Greiss.

The Islanders were outshot 12-6 in a scoreless second period but had the most serious threats. Center Josh Bailey forced a turnover deep in the Blues' zone before his shot bounced off Elliott with just under nine minutes left. With 3:23 left, left winger Nikolay Kulemin's shot bounced off the right post and out.

The Islanders tied it 6:39 into the third period when a pass from center Ryan Strome hit Grabovski in stride as he closed in on Elliott. Grabovski's first shot was deflected by Elliott, but he stayed with the puck and managed to backhand it into the upper right corner as he sailed past the net.

The final minute of overtime featured three legitimate scoring chances. Blues center David Backes was stopped by Greiss on a breakaway with 42 seconds left. A slap shot by left winger Alexander Steen ticked off Backes' stick or skate about 20 seconds later.

Islanders center John Tavares skated along the left side of the ice on the subsequent possession but was stopped by Elliott.
