Canucks 2, Rangers 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Left winger Daniel Sedin scored midway through the third period to break a 1-1 tie and give the Vancouver Canucks a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers on Wednesday night.

Defenseman Alex Edler scored on a power play and added an assist for the Canucks. Center Henrik Sedin had two assists for Vancouver (11-11-8).

Center Dan Boyle scored for the Rangers (18-8-3) on a penalty shot.

Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller stopped 32 shots. Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves.

The win ended New York's six-game game win streak against Vancouver (5-0-1) dating back to Jan. 13, 2011.

The Rangers ran into penalty problems early in the third, allowing Edler to score the game's first goal on a power play at 3:19.

With Vancouver enjoying a five-on-three advantage, Daniel Sedin took a pass at the faceoff circle from Henrik Sedin. He dished it back to the blue line for Edler, who beat Lundqvist with a shot through traffic on the glove side.

The Rangers tied up at 8:54 after Canuck defenseman Chris Tanev was called for putting his hand on the puck in the goal crease. Boyle took the penalty shot, deked Miller and slid it past his toe for his first goal of the season.

The Canucks went ahead 2-1 just 30 second later when Daniel Sedin, positioned near the goal line, deflected a slap pass from Edler past Lundqvist.

Neither team managed a goal in the first two periods, although the Rangers had the better chances. Right winger Kevin Hayes looked as if he would score the game's first goal during a second-period scramble, but his shot hit the back of Vancouver center Jared McCann's skate and rolled wide.

Lundqvist wasn't tested often but made a big stop off a shot from Vancouver right winger Adam Cracknell, who was left alone in front of the net midway through the second.

The Rangers dominated the first period. They outshot the Canucks 15-7 and played most of the period in the Vancouver end but couldn't get a puck past Miller.

The Canucks goaltender looked sharp in stopping right winger Jesper Fast's shot from the slot and blocking a backhand from left winger Chris Kreider.
