Coyotes 3, Canucks 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Right winger Shane Doan scored two goals as the Arizona Coyotes defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 Monday night.

Center Laurent Dauphin also scored for Arizona (19-16-4). Right winger Tobias Rieder had two assists. The Coyotes are 6-2-3 in their past 11 games.

Center Bo Horvat, on the power play, and left winger Daniel Sedin scored for Vancouver (15-16-9). The Canucks have scored two goals or fewer in nine of their past 11 games.

Coyotes goaltender Louis Domingue made 35 saves and also was awarded an assist on Arizona's second goal. Vancouver goalie Jacob Markstrom stopped 26 shots.

Doan made it 3-1 on a power-play goal with just 73 seconds gone in the third.

After Vancouver right winger Adam Cracknell failed on a clearing attempt, the puck went to Rieder, who was alone in front of the net. His shot got past Markstrom but hit the post. Doan tapped it for his ninth goal in the past seven games.

Daniel Sedin made it 3-2 at 4:41. He took a pass from center Henrik Sedin and beat Domingue on the stick side.

That goal came six seconds after an Arizona goal was disallowed following a Vancouver coach's challenge that showed left winger Max Domi was offside on the play.

The Coyotes scored twice in the second period to lead 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

A good play by Arizona right winger Brad Richardson set up the game's first goal at 6:55 of the middle period. Working behind the Vancouver net, Richardson sent a pass to defenseman Connor Murphy at the blue line. Murphy took a slap shot that deflected off Doan's skate past Markstrom.

Horvat tied the game at 13:41. He used his strength to collect the rebound of his own shot and slide it into the corner of the net past Domingue.

It was Horvat's third goal of the season and his first in 27 games. It also was Vancouver's first power-play goal in 21 man-advantages over 10 games.

It took the Coyotes just nine seconds to regain the lead. Arizona quickly moved the puck down the ice. Rieder appeared to whiff on a shot, but the puck rolled across the crease to Dauphin who scored into an empty net. It was Dauphin's first goal in just his third NHL game.

There was a scary moment early in the scoreless first period when Daniel Sedin lost a couple of teeth after taking a puck in the face. He skated to the bench, leaving a trail of blood, and went to the dressing room but returned before the period ended.
