Tarasenko's overtime goal lifts Blues past Stars
ST. LOUIS -- Right winger Vladimir Tarasenko scored his 10th goal of the season 3:24 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars on Monday night.
Jamie Oleksiak of Dallas scored his second goal of the game with just 50 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. It was the second consecutive game the Blues allowed a tying goal after the opponent had pulled their goalie in favor of an extra attacker at the end of regulation.
David Perron had put the Blues ahead 3-2 on his seventh goal of the year at 13:12 of the third period off a pass from left winger Jaden Schwartz. The goal extended his point-scoring streak to eight consecutive games (three goals, eight assists). The assist for Schwartz extended his streak to seven games (five goals, four assists). Perron's streak is the longest active streak in the NHL.
The win was the fifth in a row at home for the Blues, who improved their home record for the season to 10-1-2, including an 8-0-2- mark in their last 10 games at Scottrade Center.
The Stars had rallied from a 2-0 deficit, tying the game 1:47 into the third period on a power-play goal by left winger Jamie Benn, his seventh of the season. The goal came just 15 seconds after Blues' left winger Robby Fabbri was called for hooking.
The Blues took a 2-0 lead on goals by left winger Robby Fabbri and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo.
Fabbri converted a pass from defenseman Robert Bortuzzo at 13:36 of the first period, beating goalie Antti Niemi with the shot.
Pietrangelo doubled the lead with a power-play goal 4:17 into the second period as he poked a loose puck into the net. The goal came with Dallas defenseman Esa Lindell serving a minor hooking penalty.
The Stars cut the deficit to 2-1 on defenseman Jamie Oleksiak's second goal of the season at 16:21 of the second period. The goal came on just the ninth shot on goal by Dallas in the game.
NOTES: The Blues kept the same lineup from their last game on Saturday night, with RW Ty Rattie continuing to play in place of RW Nail Yakupov. ... Healthy scratches for the Stars included D Dan Hamhuis, who missed his second game of the season, and D Stephen Johns, who was recalled from the minors on Sunday after playing two games with the AHL Texas Stars. ... LW Alexander Steen and D Joel Edmundson (upper-body injuries) participated in the Blues' morning skate on Monday but were not ready to return to the lineup. ... The Stars will play the Red Wings in Detroit on Tuesday night in the second game of a four-game trip, while the Blues' homestand continues with a game Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
