Zach LaVine scored 27 points and made five 3-point baskets as visiting Minnesota downed Utah.
Andrew Wiggins had 22 points and seven rebounds for the Timberwolves, who won for just the second time in the last nine games. Chase Budinger made four 3-pointers while scoring 15 points and Sean Kilpatrick tallied 13 points.
Derrick Favors contributed 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Jazz, who were without forward Gordon Hayward (shoulder). Rudy Gobert had 18 points, 17 rebounds and six blocked shots, Joe Ingles scored 18 points and Trey Burke had 16 points on 4-of-22 shooting.
Utah had a five-point lead with 1:02 left in regulation before 3-pointers by Budinger and LaVine brought the Timberwolves within 94-93 with 20.7 seconds to play and LaVine knocked down a tying 3-pointer with 12.2 seconds left. Gorgui Dieng’s tip-in and Budinger’s 3-pointer gave Minnesota a 102-97 lead with 2:29 left in overtime, the Jazz pulled within one on Burke’s layup with 5.5 seconds to play and LaVine split two free throws before Burke missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Ingles scored 16 first-half points as Utah led 48-42 entering the break and the Timberwolves inched ahead later in the third before the Jazz took a 63-60 lead into the final stanza. Kilpatrick drained three 3-pointers in a 73-second span to give the Timberwolves a 79-74 lead with 7:28 remaining in regulation before the Jazz answered with a 14-4 surge to take a five-point advantage with 2:43 to play before Minnesota finished with a flourish.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Utah G Rodney Hood had eight points before departing with a stomach illness. … Minnesota played just seven players as SG Kevin Martin (hamstring) was a late scratch and the Timberwolves were again without C Nikola Pekovic (ankle), PF Kevin Garnett (knee) and PG Ricky Rubio (ankle). … Favors recorded his 21st double-double of the season.
