Gaudreau, Giordano help Flames defeat Canucks
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Defenseman Dougie Hamilton scored two goals as the Calgary Flames defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 on Saturday night.
Johnny Gaudreau (power play), defenseman Mark Giordano (short-handed) and defenseman Travis Hamonic also scored for the Flames (4-2-0), who rebounded from a 6-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Friday night.
Jaromir Jagr had an assist for his first point since signing with Calgary as a free agent Oct. 4.
Derek Dorsett and Brock Boeser scored for the Canucks (1-2-1).
Vancouver goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 22 shots. Calgary's Mike Smith made 27 saves.
The teams combined for three goals in 57 seconds in the third period.
Gaudreau gave Calgary a 4-2 lead at 10:14. He took a pass from Jagr and let go a shot that bounced off a leg and past Markstrom.
Boeser made it 4-2 at 10:23 with a shot that beat Smith on the glove side. Calgary went ahead 5-2 at 11:11 when Dougie Hamilton's shot from the point fooled Markstrom.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period. when the Canucks failed to score on five power plays.
The Flames scored first at 11:37 on a three-on-one breakaway while playing short-handed. Troy Brouwer got the puck in his own zone, then fed it up the ice to Freddie Hamilton. He passed to Giordano, who scored his first of the season with a shot to the short side.
Dorsett tied the game at 17:45 when his shot from the faceoff circle hit Dougie Hamilton and deflected past Smith.
The Flames outshot the Canucks 11-4 in the second period.
Hamonic made it 2-1 at 10:57 of the second period. He scored his first of the season by pouncing on a puck that squired loose during a scramble in front of the Vancouver net and firing a shot through Markstrom.
Dougie Hamilton made it 3-1 at 17:59 of the second when he took a shot from the point that beat Markstrom.
