Giordano fuels Flames' outburst vs. Canucks

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Defenseman Mark Giordano scored two of the Flames' four second-period goals in Calgary's 6-1 rout of the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.

Sam Bennett had a goal and three assists while Mark Jankowski had a goal and two assists for the Flames (17-14-3). Matthew Tkachuk and Micheal Ferland also scored, and David Rittich made 16 saves for Calgary, which snapped a three-game losing skid.

Markus Granlund scored for the Canucks (15-15-4), who have just one win in their past six games (1-5-0).

Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom permitted five goals on 19 shots before being replaced by Anders Nilsson to start the third period. Nilsson stopped 18 of 19 shots.

The Flames, who lost 2-0 to the Nashville Predators on Saturday, led 1-0 after the first period on Jankowski's goal at 5:45. Bennett made a backhand pass from below the goal line to Jankowski, who fought off a check from Alexander Burmistrov and scored his sixth of the season on a shot to the stick side.

The Flames took control of the game in the second period, with three of their goals coming in a four-minute span.

Giordano scored his first at 3:56. He took a pass from Johnny Gaudreau, skated around Canucks defenseman Ben Hutton and scored on a shot that deflected off Markstrom's shoulder into the net.

Tkachuk made it 3-0 at 15:47, taking a pass from Bennett and beating Markstrom on the stick side.

Giordano netted his second of the night at 18:47 when Canucks defenseman Alex Edler failed to get the puck out of the Vancouver end. Matt Stajan passed to Giordano, who beat Markstrom with a backhand.

Bennett scored at 19:47 on a four-on-one breakaway. He used Jankowski as a decoy, then notched his fifth of the season.

The Canucks finally got on the scoreboard with a power-play goal at 6:48 of the third. Granlund scored on a rebound after his first shot hit the crossbar.

Ferland made it 6-1 after scoring a power-play goal on a scramble at 11:09.
