Coyotes 3, Blackhawks 2 (SO)

Radim Vrbata converted in the second round for the lone tally of the shootout and Ilya Bryzgalov denied all three attempts as the Phoenix Coyotes skated to a 3-2 triumph over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

Vrbata also netted his fourth goal in his last three games and Taylor Pyatt extended his points streak to four contests with a tally for Phoenix (29-19-9), which secured its fourth straight win since dropping four of its previous five contests.

Bryzgalov turned aside 31 shots to improve to 23-14-6 on the season. The 30-year-old Russian preserved the win by denying captain Jonathan Toews, Stanley Cup hero Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa in the shootout.

Vrbata opened the scoring with 4:54 remaining in the first period. The 29-year-old Vrbata, who played in parts of two seasons with the Blackhawks, burned his former team with his 15th of the season.

Pyatt doubled the advantage just 42 seconds into the second period. Captain Shane Doan and defenseman Sami Lepisto collected assists on Pyatt's 14th goal of the season. Pyatt has two goals and two assists in his last four games.

Troy Brouwer and reigning Norris Trophy winner Duncan Keith netted power-play goals and Dave Bolland notched a pair of assists for Chicago (28-22-6), which has dropped six of its last eight games.

Corey Crawford finished with 23 saves to suffer his fifth loss in seven starts.
