Senators 2, Panthers 1
All-Star defenseman Erik Karlsson registered his third career two-goal performance and Craig Anderson came within 4:13 of a shutout as the Ottawa Senators posted a 2-1 road victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
Anderson turned aside 33 shots for the Senators, who have won five of their last six games away from home and six of nine overall. Ottawa improved to 2-0 on its four-game road trip.
With the game scoreless, Karlsson grabbed the puck after fellow defenseman Filip Kuba's pass from the right point caromed off the boards and skated down the left side before cutting to the net. The Swede flicked a shot that bounced off Tomas Vokoun and over the goal line at 11:12 of the third period for his 10th goal of the season and second in 29 games.
The 20-year old Karlsson completed his second two-goal effort of the season with 5:10 remaining, converting a power-play opportunity with a blast from the right faceoff circle. Defenseman Clay Wilson spoiled Anderson's shutout bid 57 seconds later with his second tally of the campaign.
Vokoun made his second consecutive 37-save performance for the Panthers, who have lost six of seven overall and 11 of 13 at home (2-6-5).
