Avalanche 3, Oilers 2 (SO)
Ryan Stoa scored the decisive goal in the fourth round of the shootout as the Colorado Avalanche ended their 10-game losing streak Saturday with a 3-2 road triumph over the Edmonton Oilers.
All-Star Matt Duchene notched a goal and an assist in regulation, Kevin Porter also scored and Brian Elliott made 31 saves for his first win as a member of the Avalanche, who also snapped a seven-game road skid and improved to 2-18-2 in their last 22 overall.
Defenseman Kurtis Foster scored a goal and set up another, rookie Jordan Eberle tallied and Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 25 shots for Edmonton, which has lost six in a row.
Neither team scored over the first three rounds of the shootout and Elliott, who is 1-5-1 since being acquired from Ottawa, denied rookie Magnus Paajarvi on the Oilers' fourth attempt. Stoa proceeded to lift a backhander under the crossbar, salvaging the finale of Colorado's four-game road trip (1-3).
Duchene gave Colorado the lead midway through the first period, beating Khabibulin at 9:47 for just his second goal in 13 games. But Eberle converted a power-play opportunity just over 13 minutes into the second period to forge a tie.
Porter put a backhander past Khabibulin with three minutes left in the session to provide Colorado a 2-1 edge. Edmonton drew even on Foster's tally with 3:50 remaining in the third.
