Avalanche 4, Oilers 3 (OT)
David Jones scored 3:57 into overtime as the Colorado Avalanche skated to a 4-3 home triumph over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday in the regular-season finale for both Northwest Division rivals.
Milan Hejduk netted a power-play goal and Ryan O'Reilly and Philippe Dupuis tallied 50 seconds apart in the first period for Colorado (30-44-8), which snapped a four-game losing skid and won for just the second time in 10 outings.
Colorado captain Adam Foote played in his last NHL game on Sunday. The 39-year-old defenseman officially announced his retirement on Friday, but returned after a 12-game absence to compete one last time. He logged over 15 minutes of ice time, but did not record an official shot on goal.
With Liam Reddox in the penalty box serving a tripping penalty in overtime, Jones cleaned up a rebound off Matt Duchene's shot and deposited the puck past Nikolai Khabibulin for his 27th goal of the season. Jones also picked up a pair of assists during regulation.
Peter Budaj turned aside 25 shots to pick up the win.
Defenseman Kurtis Foster collected a goal and an assist, Liam Reddox netted his first goal of the season and Teemu Hartikainen tallied for the second straight game for Edmonton (25-45-12), which ended the season having dropped three in a row and nine of its last 11 games.
Khabibulin finished with 21 saves for the Oilers.
