Devils 4, Lightning 2
David Clarkson and Ryan Carter each notched a goal and an assist as the visiting New Jersey Devils built a three-goal lead and held on for a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
Dainius Zubrus and Patrik Elias also scored as the Devils snapped the Lightning’s six-game home winning streak. Carter was playing in his 200th career game.
Ryan Shannon had a goal - his first with Tampa Bay - and an assist on Martin St. Louis’ tally in the third period to bring the Lightning within 3-2. Carter added an unassisted goal with 2:03 left.
After a scoreless first period, the Devils took control with two power-play goals and another that was scored one second after they were shorthanded for a 3-0 lead after two periods.
Zubrus capitalized on a Lightning turnover while they were on the power play, zipping a shot past Tampa Bay goalie Dwayne Roloson at 1:09 - just after Elias had escaped the penalty box.
Elias scored at 6:05 after a nifty pass by Clarkson, 14 seconds after Devils’ defenseman Anton Volchenkov had left the box to set up a 5-on-4 advantage.
Clarkson poked home a rebound on the power play at 17:44. The Devils have four power-play goals in their last three games after going 0-for-19 the previous five.
