Devils 5, Lightning 4

Zach Parise and Adam Henrique each had a goal and two assists and the visiting New Jersey Devils held off a late rally for a 5-4 victory over the struggling Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday.

Parise had a hand in all three goals in the second period as the Devils turned a deadlocked contest into a 5-2 lead, sending the Lightning to their seventh loss in eight games.

Henrique slipped a pass to Parise at the left side of the net 56 seconds into the second for a 3-2 lead. Parise later set up Ilya Kovalchuk at 5:42 and then Henrique - on a 2-on-0, short-handed breakout - at 13:23.

Steven Stamkos scored on the power play at 9:29 of the third period and added another goal with 33.5 seconds remaining for the Lightning, who had a 36-22 edge in shots.

Tampa Bay, which has lost four of its last five at home, came up empty in four tries on the power play in the second period against the NHL’s top penalty-killing unit.

Steve Downie and Blair Jones scored 1:20 apart late in the first period to tie the game 2-2 for the Lightning.
