Tim Thomas turned aside 32 shots for his third shutout in five games and the visiting Boston Bruins extended their winning streak to nine games with a 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night.
Defenseman Andrew Ference notched the game-winner with a first-period goal and Thomas made it stand up to improve to 6-0-0 in his last six games.
Ference tallied for the second straight game after going without a goal in his first 15 games of the season to help Boston beat the Canadiens for the first time in three tries this season.
It marks the longest winning streak by the Bruins since they won 10 straight from Dec. 8, 2009 to Jan. 1, 2009.
Montreal netminder Carey Price made 17 saves and saw his bid for a third straight shutout come to an end as he fell to 15-5-2 lifetime against the Bruins.
The Canadiens were unable to capitalize on a four-minute power play that spanned the second and third periods and couldn't connect with the man advantage for the final 1:39 of the game in falling back to the .500 mark (9-9-3).
The only goal came on a delayed penalty at 15:41 of the opening period. The Bruins went the length of the ice, utilizing quick passes by Chris Kelly and Rich Peverley, who slid a perfect pass that set up Ference's wrist shot to the top right corner.
