Predators 2, Oilers 1

Nick Spaling scored the game winner with 7:39 remaining as the Nashville Predators halted a four-game losing skid with a 2-1 win over the host Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

With the teams knotted after 40 minutes, Nashville took the lead moments after the Oilers nearly scored at the other end. Jordin Tootoo pounced on a loose puck and slid a backhand pass to Spaling, who fired a hight shot past Edmonton netminder Nikolai Khabibulin from in close.

Netminder Anders Lindback held on from there, stopping 17 shots as the Predators earned just their second win in five games in Western Canada so far this season.

Edmonton's Jordan Eberle kicked things off just past the seven-minute mark of the opening period. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins intercepted a clearing attempt and fed Eberle, who banged in his own rebound over Lindback's left shoulder.

Nashville looked to get on the scoreboard near the midway mark of the second period, but Khabibulin made a series of point-blank saves to preserve his shutout. That came to an end at 11:34, as Shea Weber blazed down the left side and snapped a wrist shot that beat Khabibulin past his right pad.
