Coyotes 4, Blackhawks 3 (SO)

Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Radim Vrbata scored in the first two rounds of the shootout to lift the Phoenix Coyotes to a 4-3 victory over the host Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.

Vrbata added his 13th tally in regulation and Raffi Torres and Keith Yandle scored for the Coyotes, who bounced back from two straight losses.

Ekman-Larsson beat Ray Emery on the glove side in the first round and Vrbata went backhanded in round two, shoveling the puck up over Emery’s leg. Mike Smith stopped Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa on the other end.

Phoenix jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Corey Crawford, getting even-strength goals from Torres and Vrbata in the first period and going up three goals when Yandle banged home his third tally at the 1:09 mark of the second.

Chicago turned to Emery in goal at that point and began its comeback, cutting it on consecutive goals by Toews, the second on the power play at the 9:27 mark of the second.

Patrick Kane brought the Blackhawks all the way back with 6:03 left in the second. Toews took the puck down the left side on the odd-man rush and slipped it to into the slot to Kane, who went down on one knee to knock it past Smith.
