Bruins 6, Flyers 0
Captain Zdeno Chara scored in his return from a knee injury to highlight a four-goal first period and Tim Thomas turned aside 31 shots as the Boston Bruins emphatically ended the Philadelphia Flyers' season-high seven-game winning streak with a 6-0 road triumph on Saturday.
Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton netted power-play goals and Benoit Pouliot, Tyler Seguin and Daniel Paille also tallied for Boston, which improved to 18-2-1 in its last 21 games to pull into a tie with Philadelphia atop the Eastern Conference.
Staked to an early lead, Thomas denied Scott Hartnell on a breakaway in the first period and cruised to his fourth shutout of the season - all on the road - and 30th career. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner improved to 11-3-2 in his career versus the Flyers.
Boston scored 27 seconds into the contest as Rich Peverley's centering feed from just inside the blue line caromed off the stick of a driving Pouliot and past Ilya Bryzgalov. The assist was the first of three for Peverley.
After Paille doubled the advantage just under 2 1/2 minutes later, Chara effectively silenced the Wells Fargo Center faithful with a blast from the left point at 8:08 of the first period.
The hulking defenseman capped the "Gordie Howe hat trick" by assisting on Horton's tally midway into the second period.
To add injury to insult, Flyers rookie Sean Couturier exited the contest after taking defenseman Kimmo Timonen's slap shot to the side of the head late in the first period. He did not return.
