Hurricanes 2, Senators 1 (OT)

Tuomo Ruutu's tip-in goal 3:24 into overtime gave the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 win over the visiting Ottawa Senators on Friday.

Andres Nodl added his second tally and Cam Ward made 22 saves for the Hurricanes, who won for just the third time in the last 14 games.

With Carolina in on a rush, Jussi Jokinen dropped the puck off to Jay Harrison, who blasted a slap shot from the left point. Ruutu got a stick down in front of the puck, tipping it up over Craig Anderson’s shoulder for his 12th goal.

Nodl gave the Hurricanes the lead 2:33 into the game when he flipped the puck toward the net from a bad angle and had it glance off a defenseman’s skate past Anderson.

The Senators got that one back with 2:45 left in the opening period. Kuba came off the bench on a line change and let a wrist shot fly from the left point, sneaking his third goal past a screened Cam Ward. It marked the 300th point of Kuba’s career.

Anderson finished with 36 saves for Ottawa, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.
