Kings 4, Coyotes 3
Defenseman Willie Mitchell snapped a tie early in the third period and the Los Angeles Kings went on to record a 4-3 home triumph over the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday.
Rob Scuderi, Brad Richardson and captain Dustin Brown also scored while Anze Kopitar added a pair of assists for Los Angeles, which improved to 2-0-1 under new coach Darryl Sutter.
After Phoenix's Raffi Torres scored his second goal of the night in the second period to forge a 2-2 tie, Mitchell beat Jason LaBarbera with a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle 1:48 into the third to put the Kings in front for good.
Brown doubled the lead - and chased LaBarbera - at 7:06 with a wrister from the right circle. But Daymond Langkow answered 33 seconds later to get the Coyotes back within a goal.
LaBarbera made 25 saves and Curtis McElhinney stopped all six shots he faced in relief for Phoenix, which has lost six of nine.
