Kings 1, Coyotes 0 (OT)

Defenseman Drew Doughty scored 38 seconds into overtime and Jonathan Quick made 22 saves as the Los Angeles Kings skated to a 1-0 home victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.

Jarret Stoll and blue-liner Jack Johnson each notched an assist for Los Angeles, which improved to 2-0-1 on its six-game homestand and 5-0-3 under new coach Darryl Sutter.

Doughty drove to the net on the left side and attempted to stuff the puck past Mike Smith. He lost control, but the puck caromed off the skate of Phoenix defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and under Smith for the game-winning tally.

Replay officials ruled the puck crossed the line before the net came off its moorings, giving Doughty his first goal in 25 games. The Kings have scored three goals or less in 20 of their last 22 contests.

Quick turned aside six shots in the first period, five in the second and 11 in the third en route to his league-leading sixth shutout of the season. Quick has allowed a total of four goals over his last four starts.

Smith made 27 saves for the Coyotes, who completed a 1-2-1 road trip. Phoenix has lost six of its last seven games overall.
