Maple Leafs 4, Jets 0
Jonas Gustavsson turned aside all 24 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season and Tim Connolly and Mikhail Grabovski collected a goal and an assist apiece as the Toronto Maple Leafs breezed to a 4-0 home triumph over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
Phil Kessel scored for the third straight game and All-Star defenseman Dion Phaneuf recorded his fourth assist in that stretch for Toronto, which has won two in a row after suffering a 3-2 setback to Winnipeg on New Year's Eve.
Kessel opened the scoring exactly five minutes into the contest after redirecting Joffrey Lupul's centering feed past Chris Mason. With his team-leading 23rd goal of the season, Kessel extended his point streak to seven games (four goals, three assists).
Connolly doubled the advantage 1:22 into the second period after cleaning up a rebound off Joey Crabb's shot and beating Mason for his seventh tally of the campaign.
Grabovski and Clarke MacArthur scored nearly seven minutes apart in the third period and Gustavsson stopped nine shots in the session to preserve his second career shutout.
Winnipeg fell to 0-5-1 on the latter half of back-to-back contests this season. The Jets are now 5-10-4 away from Manitoba.
