Capitals 1, Penguins 0

Jason Chimera scored the lone goal late in the first period and Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves as the Washington Capitals began a four-game homestand with a 1-0 triumph over the offensively challenged Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.

Jeff Halpern and Joel Ward each had an assist for Washington, which extended its home winning streak to five games and improved to 12-1-2 in its last 15 meetings with Pittsburgh.

Halpern chased down a loose puck along the right-wing boards and dished it to Chimera, who beat Marc-Andre Fleury high to the stick side from alone in the slot for his 14th goal of the season. Chimera is three tallies away from matching his career high set in 2005-06 while with Columbus.

Vokoun turned aside nine shots in the first period, 11 in the second and 10 in the third for his 46th career shutout and second this season.

Fleury made 20 saves for the Penguins, who have scored a total of six goals during their six-game losing streak. It is their longest skid since dropping 10 straight in January 2006.
