Senators 3, Rangers 0

All-Star Jason Spezza scored twice and Craig Anderson turned aside 34 shots for his first shutout of the season as the Ottawa Senators extended a bizarre trend Thursday night, blanking the host New York Rangers 3-0 Thursday.

Fellow All-Star Milan Michalek also scored for the Senators while defenseman Erik Karlsson added a pair of assists in his return from a one-game absence due to an upper-body injury.

The visiting team has now won the last 10 encounters in the head-to-head series dating back to October 2009.

After a scoreless first period, Spezza opened the scoring 8:54 into the second. The Senators' leading scorer whistled a wrist shot from the left circle that eluded a partially screened Henrik Lundqvist on the short side.

Ottawa put the game out of reach with 6:02 remaining, as Michalek sped down the wing and wristed a shot from in close that beat Lundqvist. It was the 23rd goal of the season for Michalek - leaving him just three shy of his career high set in 2006-07 - and his fourth in as many games.

Spezza added his second of the night just 1:35 later, a rebound tap-in from the doorstop with the Senators on a power play.
