BLACKHAWKS 2, RED WINGS 1: Patrick Kane scored his third goal in four games to snap a tie late in the second period and Ray Emery turned aside 23 shots as visiting Chicago upended Detroit.

Patrick Sharp collected a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who have won three in a row overall and improved to 6-0-1 in their last seven visits to Joe Louis Arena.

All-Star Jimmy Howard suffered a lower body injury and did not return to start the second period. Joey MacDonald took his place and finished with 12 saves.

Defenseman Niklas Kronwall scored to seize his seventh point in three contests for the Red Wings, who missed an opportunity to move past the idle St. Louis Blues for sole possession of first place in the Central Division.

With the game tied at 1-1, Kane accepted a feed from Sharp and used some nifty stickhandling to tuck the puck past MacDonald with 1:19 left in the second period. The goal was Kane's 16th of the campaign.

Sharp opened the scoring 3:17 into the first period after his blast from the point beat a screened Emery. Sharp's tally was his 25th of the season and first since Feb. 18.

Kronwall leveled the contest just under three minutes later. Darren Helm skillfully stickhandled into the zone before feeding Kronwall, who wired a shot from the point past Howard for his 14th goal of the campaign.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago captain Jonathan Toews missed his seventh straight game with concussion-like symptoms and D Niklas Hjalmarsson sat out his fifth consecutive contest with the same ailment. ... Detroit D Jakub Kindl suffered an upper body injury in the first period. He did not return to the contest.
