Ducks 4, Red Wings 0
DUCKS 4, RED WINGS 0: Teemu Selanne recorded his 1,400th career point by igniting a three-goal outburst in the second period and Kyle Palmieri registered his first career two-goal game as host Anaheim handed Detroit its fifth loss in its last six games.
Jonas Hiller made 23 saves in his 30th consecutive start and Bobby Ryan scored his 26th goal as the Ducks snapped a three-game losing streak and defeated the Red Wings for the first time in four tries this season.
After Cam Fowler’s shot from the point was fumbled by goaltender Joey MacDonald, Selanne knocked in the loose puck at 8:52 for his 660th career goal.
Palmieri picked defenseman Brendan Smith’s pocket, deked MacDonald and lifted a backhander over his right shoulder at 15:49, and Ryan jumped on a juicy rebound and wired a wrist shot past MacDonald’s glove at 18:55.
Palmieri, who doubled his career goal total, swooped in and slid the puck around MacDonald at 1:22 of the third period.
Hiller preserved his 15th career shutout when Tomas Holmstrom’s shot from point-blank range in the final period went between defenseman Sheldon Brookbank’s legs and into Hiller’s glove.
