Jiri Hudler scored twice and Karri Ramo posted his third career shutout as visiting Calgary skated past struggling San Jose.
Defenseman TJ Brodie recorded two assists and Sean Monahan added one for the Flames, who have won five of their last seven contests. Ramo turned aside 32 shots en route to his first blanking of the season - and Calgary's first in San Jose since Fred Brathwaite accomplished the feat on Jan. 3, 2001.
Antti Niemi made 17 saves for the Sharks, who fell to 0-1-2 on their six-game homestand. Logan Couture registered a game-high six shots as San Jose saw its winless streak reach four contests (0-2-2).
The Sharks outshot Calgary 22-15 over 40 minutes but entered the third period with a 1-0 deficit. The Flames struck with 2:44 remaining in the second session, when Hudler received a backhand pass from Brodie and wristed the puck inside the left post from the slot despite partially fanning on the shot.
Ramo made several strong saves in the third before Sharks defenseman Justin Braun was whistled for tripping with 1:44 remaining. Unable to mount an attack while short-handed, San Jose had its fate sealed when Hudler scored into an empty net with 50 seconds to play.
