Michigan State 30 Northwestern 6
The Spartans clinched their division setting up an Ohio State Michigan State Big Ten title game in the near future. Quarterback Connor Cook picked the right time of the year to play his best ball as he threw for a career high 293 yards and two touchdowns as the Spartans breezed past the Wildcats. Running back Jeremy Langford carried the load in a big way yet again carrying the ball 25 times for 150 yards and two scores. The number one defense in the nation continued their dominant trend forcing three turnovers while not allowing a single touchdown. Injuries which have plagued the Wildcats early and often this year didn't let up in this game as starting quarterback Kain Colter was knocked out in the first quarter after he took a big hit from safety Isaiah Lewis which ultimately resulted in his ejection. The Spartans have won seven straight games as they take on the Gophers next week at home followed by Ohio State for all the Big Ten marbles. Northwestern on the other hand has lost seven straight and is ready for the 2013 season riddled with injuries to come to an end.
Michigan 21 Iowa 24
The Wolverines managed just 158 yards from scrimmage and blew a 21-7 half-time lead as the Hawkeyes rallied back for a 24-21 victory. Jake Ruddock started the game out throwing an interception on the first play of scrimmage that was returned seven yards for a touchdown. Ruddock had three interceptions on the day but was bailed out by his defense who was rock solid shutting down Devin Gardner for just 98 passing yards on the day. That same defense held the Wolverines to just 45 yards in the second half as Ruddock found a rythym throwing two touchdowns as he revived his team back from lifelessness and helped them regain the lead with six minutes left with a Mike Meyer field goal. Four minutes later Anthony Hitchens stripped Gardner sealing up the win. After going 4-8 last season, the Hawkeyes locked up a winning season with a current record of 7-4 (4-3 in Big Ten play). The team that once looked like a Rose Bowl contender Wolverines now drops to 7-4 (3-4).
Wisconsin 20 Minnesota 7
The most anticipated game of the conference Saturday as the Border Battle for the axe took place in Minnesota. The Gophers jumped out to a first quarter lead after a pick-six that sent the twin cities erupting. By the end however, it wasn't the Badgers red hot running game that beat Minnesota, but the bone-crushing defense of the Badgers led by linebacker Chris Borland. Borland ended the day with 12 tackles along with two fumble recoveries along with a forced fumble tying the NCAA record for career fumbles caused. Borland also helped his defense force three turnovers and yielded just 83 yards passing. The owner of those 83 yards, quarterback Philip Nelson was just 7 of 23 passes and was under distress all day long. Gophers head coach Jerry Kill when commenting on the Badgers who have now won six games in a row called them "the most underrated team in the country." Minnesota figured out the hard way how good Wisconsin is as they hoisted the axe at the end of the game extending the longest winning streak against a rivalry team that dates back to 1890.
Nebraska 23 Penn State 20
The team that can't get enough overtime games came up on the wrong end of it against Nebraska. After winning overtime games against Michigan and Illinois, the NIttnay Lions failed to send their senior class out in stye on their last home game of the season. Kicker Sam Ficken, who has been clutch plenty of times this year, missed an extra point early on and pushed his field goal attempt in overtime and later watched Nebraska capitalize on his mistakes. Cornhusker running back Ameer Abdulah continued his rampage this season as he rushed for 147 yards on the day giving him a 1,483 on the year. Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg accounted for all three of his teams scores as he threw two touchdowns and ran another one in. However, Hackenberg couldn't muster an overtime drive with points as his kicker Ficken would eventually miss his attempt while Nebraska's Pat Smith nailed his 42-yard attempt through the uprights to send his teammates storming onto the field. Nebraska has won three of their last four games moving them to 8-3 while Penn State drops to 6-5.
Indiana 14 Ohio State 42
The Buckeyes win their 23rd game in a row as they stampeded over the Hoosiers. Braxton Miller helped them jump out to a 35-0 lead as he used this game to showcase his athleticism making splash plays throughout the day. The dual-threat Miller ended the day with scored through the air and another two on the ground, helping his team improve to 11-0 on the season. He got help from his partner in crime and running back Carlos Hyde. Hyde carried the ball 18 times rushing for 117 yards and Ohio State's other two touchdowns. The Buckeyes defense came into the week with questions surrounding their ability to slow down an Indiana team that was averaging 39 points per game. Not only did they slow them down, they brought them to a complete halt. Led by stud linebacker Ryan Shazier who had 20 tackles, yes 20, as he helped Ohio State hold the Hoosiers scoreless for three plus quarters, giving up two garbage touchdowns in the final minutes with their backups in. A complete team victory as the Buckeyes have saved their best ball for last. They will take that momentum into Ann Arbor, Michigan next week where they hope to wrap up their second consecutive perfect regular season against a struggling Wolverines team.
Illinois 20 Purdue 16
The game no one really wants to talk about. A Purdue team that had just one victory on the season playing a struggling Illinois team that had lost six in a row. Surprisingly though, this game was entertaining until the end where Purdue had a chance to win before Danny Etling threw an interception at the Illinois 30-yard line with just under a minute to play. The Boilmakers were the ones who struck first, taking their first play from scrimmage 62 yards to the house. Nathan Scheelhaase was efficient with his arms and legs as he was 24 of 30 passes for 257 and two touchdowns while adding on another 10 rushes. His go-to weapon was wide out Steve Hull who had a career day with 10 catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns helping his team snap their six game losing streak while winning their first Big Ten game of the year. Purdue loses their ninth consecutive game and drops to 1-9 on the year.
