Wake Forest will be looking for a new tailback this Summer after four-year starter Josh D. Harris graduated.
Despite never topping a thousand yards, Harris was a loyal servant to the Demon Deacons and, along with quarterback Tanner Price, delivered some exciting moments.
Harris and Price combined for 709 of the 1,129 yards and nine of 11 touchdowns the offense mustered on the ground last year and leave the coaching staff with a big hole to fill. Sadly, for Wake Forest fans, the future does not look bright and a transition year may be in the offing.
Senior Orville Reynolds tallied 53 yards on 21 carries as a junior – a stat line that fills nobody with confidence. He is, however, a shifty back with the ability to break long runs and could be complemented well by another back to enhance his talents. Dominique Gibson is likely to split carries with Reynolds in the hope he will use his linebacker power to move the chains.
Another option could see head coach Dave Clawson turn to two incoming freshman for inspiration. 5’10” 225-pound Isaiah Robinson rumbled his way to 3,466 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns in high school while Tyler Henderson ran for more than 1,500 yards and 23 touchdowns in a memorable senior campaign. Henderson would usually be given time to bulk up during a redshirt season but it is unlikely the Deacs can spare that expense with dark clouds hovering over the position.
Whichever way Clawson turns there will be growing pains to say the least. With so much change it could be a long season for Wake Forest.
