Tight Ends can be the difference between a fantasy championship and second place. Fantasy players seem to forget the value of a tight end until they win or lose a close matchup. In college football, there are only a handful of reliable tight ends, so if your league requires one, do not wait around. Here are the top five tight ends for the upcoming season.
1. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Washington – Seferian-Jenkins is undoubtedly the best tight end in the country, and for good reason. The junior is poised for a big season and will likely be one of the top tight ends taken in next year’s NFL Draft.
2. Eric Ebron, UNC – Ebron looks like an NFL tight end; he has good size and speed paired with soft hands. This will be his breakout year as many expect him and Tar Heels’ quarterback Bryn Renner to connect multiple times.
3. Colt Lyerla, Oregon – Lyerla is a name that will be heard for a long time. He is a former running back, and will play an essential role for the Ducks this season, lining up everywhere and doing everything.
4. Christopher Coyle, Arizona State – Of the bunch, Coyle is the most polished and may be the safest pick of the five, but not the highest upside. If you want a solid 700 yards and seven touchdowns, Coyle is your guy.
5. Jace Amaro, Texas Tech – Amaro is one of my biggest value picks and one of my top players to select in fantasy this season. He will be available later in drafts but has the potential to be a huge contributor. In only six games last season, Amaro amassed just under 400 yards and added four touchdowns.
Top Tier: Seferian-Jenkins, Ebron
Second Tier: Lyerla, Coyle
Low Risk/High Reward: Jace Amaro. Although he will be one of the more productive tight ends in the country, he likely will not be drafted high. Take advantage of his as a “sleeper” and it will pay off.
