(15) Georgia- 27 vs Vanderbilt- 31
Just as many other SEC underdogs did on Saturday, Vanderbilt took down their superior. Going into the fourth quarter, Vanderbilt was down 27-14. With Austyn Carta-Samuels out with an injury he had suffered earlier in that game, backup quarterback Patton Robinette led the Commodores to 17 unanswered points. Although, all four of Vanderbilt’s touchdowns in the game were through the ground. Oppositely, Georgia struggled with their rushing attack. On 35 total team attempts, the Bulldogs only racked up 107 yards. Aaron Murray’s miniscule 114 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception were of no help either.
(11) South Carolina- 21 vs Tennessee- 23
Down goes another SEC powerhouse, but this time, in a more exciting fashion. Tennessee kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter to take a 23-21 lead and end the game. Neither team had impressive offensive campaigns, excluding South Carolina’s Mike Davis. Davis ran for 137 yards and a touchdown, which was good enough to have him crowned as the game’s top performer. Tennessee survived by not turning the ball over, while South Carolina did so twice.
(22) Florida- 17 vs (14) Missouri- 36
Somehow, some way, Missouri keeps on rolling despite not having their starting quarterback. Missouri’s rushing attack made up for the lack of a starting veteran quarterback. Through nearly 40 carries, Missouri accumulated 205 rushing yards, 136 of which came from Henry Josey, and two rushing scores. The interim quarterback, Maty Mauk, managed the game as well as he could have and only threw one interception, but threw for almost 300 yards and threw for a touchdown. As usual, Florida’s offense was abysmal. Tyler Murphy passed for less than 100 yards and their leading rusher, freshman Kelvin Taylor, only had 74 yards.
(24) Auburn- 45 vs (7) Texas A&M- 41
Miraculously, Auburn put up just enough points to eek out a win against Johnny Manziel and the Aggies. Both Nick Marshall and Tre Mason had phenomenal performances. Not only did Marshall throw for 236 yards and two touchdowns, he also ran for 100 yards and two scores. Mason ran for 178 yards and a single touchdown. While Manziel threw for 454 yards and four touchdowns, as well as two interceptions, he was not the highlight of the A&M offense. The electric Mike Evans had a stunning 287 receiving yards and caught all four of Manziel’s passing touchdowns.
(6) LSU- 24 vs Ole Miss- 27
In the face of a brutal defense, LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger crumbled. His single touchdown was accompanied by a trio of interceptions. Likewise, their rushing attack struggled to do much of anything as well. Their 35 total carries went for only 114 yards. Ole Miss’ Jaylen Wallen almost topped that total by himself. Through 19 carries, just over half of LSU’s total, he had 106 rushing yards. Surprisingly enough, Bo Wallace had an outstanding game through the air. His 30-of-39 completions went for 346 yards, but zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Arkansas- 0 vs Alabama- 52
The Crimson Tide rolls through in a tidal wave-like fashion. Unlike most other weeks, Arkansas could not get their offense to click. Brandon Allen threw two interceptions and only completed seven of his 25 passes. Even their famed running game had issues. Alabama’s Henry, Drake, and Yeldon ran for a combined 303 yards through 26 carries. They also scored four touchdowns. AJ McCarron put a nice game together as well. his 180 yards, nearly 75% of completion, and three touchdowns were insult to injury.
