USC Fires Head Coach Lane Kiffin

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise considering USC's recent blowout loss at the hands of Arizona State, but head coach Lane Kiffin has been fired.

Athletic director Pat Haden notified Kiffin of the firing immediately after the team landed in Southern California from Arizona Sunday morning.

The Trojans were blown out by Arizona State on Saturday night by the score of 62-41. Those 62 points represented a tie for the most points ever scored against USC. In total, the Sun Devils racked up 621 total yards in the route.

Kiffin finishes his up-and-down (mostly down) career in Southern California with a pedestrian 28-15 record, including losses in seven of his final 11 games.

Haden plans on holding a press conference this afternoon to address the firing and announce an interim replacement. An in-house coach will likely finish off the season.

USC has no plans on hiring a NFL coach with a previous relationship with the school. Some have mentioned Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio as a possibility, but that seems unlikely at this point.

USC is 3-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
