Fantasy College Football: Who Should Be The First Overall Pick?

A few weeks ago, Johnny Manziel was a lock to be the first player taken in college fantasy drafts all over the country. But since there is some doubt on when Manziel will be able to play this season, it has changed the forecast of the top overall pick. If he is not suspended, there is no doubt that Manziel should be the top selection. But, if he is suspended there are two players worthy of the top choice.

Meet Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch. In standard CBS fantasy leagues, Lynch posted 464 points as a junior, including over 1600 yards rushing. In terms of fantasy, Lynch contributed more points last year than Johnny Manziel. Lynch should be able to repeat last season’s performance, and maybe even exceed it. The Huskies have a few relatively tough games this season, but Lynch should definitely be able to stuff the stat sheet yet again, and is the clear choice for the number one pick should Manziel be suspended.

If you do not want to take a quarterback first overall and want to wait for a Marcus Mariota or a Nick Hundley, you will want to take a running back first overall. The top running back in terms of fantasy football is clear. Arizona running back Ka’Deem Carey rushed for over 1900 yards and 23 touchdowns last season as a sophomore, and will strive for 2000 this season. In addition to carrying the ball 303 times, Carey also caught 36 passes. The talent is there, and the workload is definitely there. Ka’Deem Carey is a safe choice for the top overall pick if you do not want a quarterback that early.

Do not reach in the first round, especially at number one overall. Always remember that you cannot win your fantasy league in the first round, but you can most definitely lose it. Make sure your selection is on par with your leagues scoring system and most importantly, what is the best value for you?
