Last week the Back 9 Report visited the world premiere of a new golf movie, “The Squeeze” in Chicago. Writer/Producer/Director Terry Jastrow, his wife, actress Anne Archer and Jeremy Sumpter, who plays the lead, sat down with Fred Altvater and talked about the new movie.
Jastrow explained how he first heard this amazing story and brought it to the big screen. Archer is a co-producer and helped cast the movie. Sumpter is an accomplished golfer, who maintains a +1 handicap at his home course.
Christopher McDonald -Shooter McGavin from Happy Gilmore- is perfectly cast as the sleazy, high-stakes gambler and Katherine LaNasa steals the show as McDonald’s quirky girlfriend.
“The Squeeze” will be available for download in a special offer from Groupon on April 16 and hits theaters and Video on Demand, April 17.
The Par 5 News presented by United Golf Network included reports on, Jesper Parnevik’s Champions Tour debut and his new reality show on Swedish television. The PGA Tour announced the breakdown for the WGC Match Play at the end of April. Arnold Palmer will build his first golf course in Scotland and Herb Kohler took steps to appease the locals at his proposed course in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The Australasia Tour denied rumors of a merger with the European Tour and Brooks Koepka was forced to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a bad back, which may affect his first-ever appearance in the Masters.
The best golf movies of all-time were rated. Caddyshack, Tin Cup, 7 Days in Utopia and Dead Solid Perfect received the highest ranking.
