The 2016 calendar year isn't getting any better for St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta, who was once again placed in the disabled list with continued discomfort in his left thumb.

The 34-year-old infielder has played in a total of 30 games this season and is hitting .221 with just five homers as well as 13 RBI. Peralta missed the first two months of the season, but was able to return back in early June. Unfortunately, the same issue that kept him out early in the year came back just recently.

It remains to be seen whether Peralta will be healthy at any point this season. With the former All-Star out for the majority of the season, Aledmys Diaz has filled in well in his stead. Diaz is hitting .315 with 13 homers, 49 RBI and a robust .386 on-base percentage this year.
