In a flurry of roster moves on Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Matt Holliday on the disabled list with a fractured right thumb. Holliday suffered the injury in Thursday's game and was quickly diagnosed with a thumb fracture, but the exact timetable for his return isn't yet known.

This season with the Cardinals, Holliday has hit .242 with a .318 on-base percentage and 19 home runs. The 36-year-old's roster spot remains vacant for now, but it comes at an interesting time as Tim McKernan reported earlier this morning that St. Louis has interest in Carlos Gomez, who was just designted for assignment by the Astros.

We'll provide further updates when more information becomes available and have fantasy analysis if Gomez is claimed by another team.
