The Los Angeles Dodgers have done their best to keep fighting for first in the NL West, but injuries have ravaged their 25-man roster. Now the thin roster takes another hit as Los Angeles place Trayce Thompson on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back irritation. While the 15-day DL spot could be backdated to the first game Thompson missed on Sunday which would signal a more immediate return, the specific type of injury seems as if it will be an extended absence.

This season, Thompson has hit 13 home runs and 11 doubles in 236 at bats. He has been largely a big hit or strikeout player, reflected by his .302 on-base percentage and 66 strikeouts. Fortunately for the Dodgers, Joc Pederson is back soon, so they will gain a starting outfielder to make up for the one they lost.
