The hits keep coming for the New York Mets heading into the final few games of the regular season. Currently holding one of the top two spots in the NL wild card race, the Mets will be without young hurler Steven Matz for the remainder of the season.

Matz will undergo surgery to repair bone spurs in his throwing elbow, and will be sidelined for the rest of the regular season as well as the postseason. The 25-year-old starter was pitching to a 9-8 record with a 3.40 ERA in 22 starts on the season.
