The San Diego Padres have traded power-hitting outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. to the Toronto Blue Jays for young pitching prospect Hansel Rodriguez. Upton Jr, 31, is in the midst of a rebound campaign after struggling a great deal over the past three seasons.

He's hitting .256 with 16 homers and 45 RBI, playing half his games at the pitcher-Friendly Petco Park.

The expectation here is that the righty will platoon with Kevin Pillar in center and Michael Saunders in left moving forward in Toronto.
