The Colorado Rockies will be without one of the biggest surprises of the MLB season for the remainder of the year. Leading NL Rookie of the Year candidate Trevor Story told reporters that he will undergo surgery after tearing the UCL in his left thumb.
Story, 23, jumped on to the scene in a big way as a rookie in 2016. He currently leads the National League with 27 homers and was on pace to drive in well over 100 runs at the time of the injury. The shortstop entered Tuesday's action as the second-best fantasy player at his position, behind only Xander Bogaerts of the Boston Red Sox.
With Story out for the remainder of the year, Colorado re-called Rafael Ynoa from the minors. The 28-year-old hit .260 with zero homers and nine RBI in 127 at-bats for the Rockies last season.
